CHAMPIONS! FVSU Students Win the First Inventure Prize Entrepreneurship Competition

Team ExtendoSocket, made up of FVSU students Ryeshia Cutliff, KeAndre Leaks, Prentis Marshall, and Derek Curry, won the Georgia Inventure Prize Competition, hosted by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. The final round was be broadcast on April 4, 2019 on PBS stations around the state.
 
The team presented a concept for ExtendoSocket, a retractable extension cord located in a wall socket.
 
The FVSU team competed against finalist teams from the Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Georgia, University of North Georgia, and Southern Regional Technical College. These five finalists were selected from nineteen teams from colleges all over the state who were scheduled to compete.
 
The Georgia InVenture Prize highlights the state’s innovation ecosystem and its high potential, ambitious and growth-oriented student entrepreneurs. A team of students were chosen by their college and will present their unique business solution to judges in a statewide competition. The winning institution will receive the “Georgia InVenture Prize Cup” to proudly display on their campus for the year. Nineteen teams were scheduled to compete in this year’s competition, including Albany State University, Atlanta Technical College, Augusta Technical College, Columbus State University, Dalton State College, Georgia College and State University, Georgia Gwinnett College, Georgia Southern University, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, Middle Georgia State University, Savannah State University, Southern Regional Technical College, and Valdosta State University, in addition to the finalists. The Georgia Chamber InVenture Prize is a competition for college students that aims to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and start-up creation. Entrepreneurial activity is expected to stimulate job creation and play an increasingly important role in Georgia’s growth. Georgia institutions have responded to the demand for entrepreneurial and innovation-oriented graduates by providing curriculum, degree offerings or student programs throughout the state.  The InVenture Prize is an outgrowth of the Southeast Regional Emmy Award-winning student-team competition created by the Georgia Institute of Technology.
