Middle Georgia Economic Developers Launch Regional Job Portal

December 3, 2020
Middle Georgia Economic Alliance

December 3, 2020

A group of Development Authority execs have launched a regional platform to assist companies and job seekers to better connect.

The economic developers across the 11-county region are members of a proactive group named the Middle Georgia Economic Alliance (MGEA.) Member counties are Baldwin; Crawford; Houston; Jones; Macon-Bibb; Monroe; Peach; Pulaski; Putnam; Twiggs and Wilkinson.  The group has been working together as a collaborative for the past 15 years. Workforce development has become a focus for their organization and organizations across the nation that are in the business of recruiting new companies and responding to the needs of existing companies in their communities. For this reason, the economic developers are working closely to enhance the relationships between their educational institutions and local industries to communicate the needs of employers and provide relevant career pathways for students.

Equally important is the need to promote new career choices to adults in search of opportunities. The pandemic has caused many people who have either been temporarily out of work or who have permanently lost their jobs to realize that selecting a new career path may be necessary. MGEA is partnering with the technical college and higher educational institutions in the area to assist people in determining the needed skills and educational attainment necessary to reach their full potential and find a rewarding career.  If a person is uncertain of what jobs they are best equipped for, an online assessment, YouScience, is made available. The YouScience assessment provides a road map for the individual, outlining careers that align personal interests and talents.

"It has been remarkable to witness the resiliency of our manufacturers across the region during the most trying times to date. The pandemic presented many challenges for the companies in Middle Georgia; however, they all quickly rose to the occasion and took on the issues at hand. They responded in a way that was expedient and efficient. Most importantly, they kept the health and safety of their employees at the forefront. Even more remarkable to note is that most companies continue to hire people throughout the crisis, and they continue to hire in large numbers.”  - Angie Gheesling, Executive Director, Development Authority of Houston County

The online job portal provides a means to explore job openings at middle Georgia companies. The sophisticated search engine allows the person to query based on location, the specific industry, job positions and certifications. To learn more, visit  As of 5:00 p.m. on December 2, there were 8,826 job postings on the website.
