FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Peach County Workforce Development Center has been years in the making, and now the project is finally getting off the ground.
The multimillion dollar job training facility would be in Fort Valley at South Peach Industrial Park off of Georgia 341. The county will partner with Middle Georgia Technical College and other local industries to provide job training for people in the community. The center will hold about 500 students and will offer GED programs, commercial driver's license classes and other adult education opportunities. Peach County Commission Chairman Melvin Walker said the school needs more space for it's programs, particularly, the CDL classes.
"We're just trying to make it convenient," Walker said, "for Central Georgia Tech to offer the programs and make it convenient for our citizens to attend."
The $4.8 million dollar project will be funded with grant money and funds from the county's Special Local Options Sales Tax fund. Walker estimates the project will take a little over a year to complete.
